Student Intervention Services

A student is deemed to be making satisfactory progress toward their academic goal if the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher.

This student is deemed to be in academic good standing with the institution.

A student in Good Academic Standing whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 will be placed on Academic Warning standing with the institution during their next semester.

A student will be removed from this warning status and return to good standing if they achieves a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 at the end of their semester on Academic Warning standing.

A student who fails to achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 at the end of their semester on Academic Warning will be placed on Academic Probation standing during the next semester with the institution.

A student will remain on Academic Probation standing for no more than three semesters as long as they have a cumulative GPA below 2.00 and is making progress toward good standing. A student is removed from academic probation status and is returned to good standing the semester after they achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00.

While a student is on Academic Probation standing, they must make progress toward good standing with the institution by adhering to the following conditions:

• Must achieve a semester GPA of 2.20 (or a ‘C+’) or higher,
• Must not register for more than 13 credit hours per semester for fall and spring and no more than 6 credit hours for the summer semester
• Must register for and complete a minimum of 3 credit hours for fall and spring, and
• Must participate in activities as recommended by the office of Student Intervention Services. This may include registering for certain classes, repeating courses, tutoring and other activities.

While on Academic Probation standing a student will not be allowed to register for successive semesters without verification of compliance with the conditions aforementioned.

If a student remains on Academic Probation standing for three semesters and has not made progress toward good standing, that student will be subject to Academic Suspension.

A student on Academic Probation not making progress toward Good Academic Standing with the institution will be prohibited from registering at the institution for one calendar year and will be placed on Academic Suspension standing.

Students on Academic Suspension standing may elect to appeal the decision through an Academic Suspension appeal. The suspension appeal will be submitted to the Student Intervention Services who will deliver the request to the Academic Review Committee. The appeal will be reviewed and the student will be notified of the final decision. A student may appeal a suspension, at most, two times in their academic career at MSU Denver.

A student on Academic Probation standing whose cumulative GPA remains below a 2.00 after three or more semesters will have their academic progress reviewed at the end of each semester by the Academic Review Committee to determine whether the they should be placed on suspension.

In both cases, the decision of the Academic Review Committee is final. Any student returning to MSU Denver after the one calendar year suspension must reapply and will be readmitted to MSU Denver on Academic Probation standing. For these students, all probationary conditions, as outlined above, will apply.
