An internship is a learning experience that is related to a student’s field of study or career interest. 通过实习, students are provided with opportunities to apply skills learned in the classroom setting, 学习新技能, and to explore potential career opportunities. 实习 can be on- or off-campus and many internships are unpaid; however, there are some that are paid. Any Biology student who is interested in earning credit for an internship, should:
For an internship to be approved for BIO credit, students are required to work with a C2Hub internship navigator who will help guide them through the approval process and how to peruse available internships. Here is a link to the C2Hub’s 网站.
Once a student has identified a specific internship that interests them, they should reach out to a Biology professor (typically this is someone with whom the student has taken a class) to ask if they are willing to serve as an internship sponsor. The student will complete the C2Hub’s application process that will be sent through various levels of approval. Once the internship has been approved, the Chair of Biology will provide an override to allow the student to register for BIO 3980: Internship in Biology.
Please note that a student may only register for 1-2 credits of internship in a single semester and that a maximum of 4 credits of independent study/internships/practicum/undergraduate research (or any combination of these) may be applied toward a major or minor in Biology. Students should also be aware that the number of credits is typically based on the time commitment associated with the internship.
For 1 credit, students will need to complete a minimum of 45 hours over the course of the semester. For 2 credits, students will need to complete a minimum of 90 hours over the course of the semester. You will not be permitted to register for more than 2 credits for an internship in a semester.
